Sermon Archive (2011-2012)

New Years is an exciting time; it is a natural time to evaluate where we have been and where we are going. Sadly, we find ourselves year after year with a bucket full of excuses, regrets and what-ifs. As we look to 2013, this sermon is a challenge and a rally cry to First Baptist Church of Reeltown to make this year, our year. This will be the year that we follow madly after God, this will be the year that we do more, reach more, grow more and praise more, and when we stand at the other end of 2013 we will not have hearts filled with regrets, but hearts filled with praise.

This is our resolution, this is our year.

The Story Sermon Series

Everyone likes a good Christmas Story; we spend countless hours watching Chrismas movies every year and recalling our favorite Christmas memories. The Christmas story in the Bible is a beautiful story of God reaching down to broken men. It is easy for us to place our focus on the angels, Mary, Joseph or the stable, but the main character in the Chritmas story has no lines. The main character in our story is Jesus; so this year as we draw closer to Christmas we will be looking at the names of Jesus and will be reminded just how wonderful God's Chritmas present to us really is.

Storyteller Sermon Series

Stories are powerful. A good story can make us laugh or make us cry; they have the power to transform our thoughts and attitudes and resonate with people regardless of education or cultural background. When Jesus began his ministry on earth He used stories to communicate some of the most difficult and potentially life changing messages to His listeners. Today, God has given us some of those stories in the Bible; this sermon series will take a closer look at some of the stories that He told because if we want to be more like Jesus a good place to start is by listening to what He said. I hope that you will make plans to be at FBC Reeltown on Sunday mornings for this exciting series. You can also click the slides below to listen to past sermons in this series.

More than a Pew Warmer Series

No one wants to come to church, sit on a pew for 75 years and never accomplish anything for God. Who would be satisfied knowing that the only legacy that you left is two round imprints in a pew somewhere? I believe that there are people in church today who know deep down inside that God wants to do something with their life. Maybe you are one of them, you’re scared to death, and you don’t know where to start. In this series we will be looking in the Bible, mostly in the New Testament, and attempting to identify what God wants from us, and so we can become effective Christians who are impacting the world for Christ in a way that will make Him proud -- so that we can be more than just another pew warmer.

Nehemiah -  Your Life Defining Mission

We all want to know that we serve some purpose on this earth; to feel like we were placed here to make a difference and accomplish something great. We want to leave a mark on this world and leave it in better shape than we received it. What if God has planned to give each of us a Life Defining Mission at some point in our lifetime? It is possible that all of our previous experiences, all of our previous service and all of our training are preparing us for the day that God gives us the mission that will define our lives.

The book of Nehemiah chronicles Nehemiah's life as he receives and completes his Life Defining Mission and gives us some principles and practices that we can use as we prepare for and execute our Life Defining Missions.

Heroes Sermon Series

It seems that we live in a society today filled with fake heroes; people are lifted up because of their fame and power, but who really lack any positive character traits that we want to emulate. This sermon series will introduce us to some real heroes in the Bible and in these sermons we will find some practical traits and habits that we can apply to our lives so that we can be better Christians today.

Best Life Sermon Series

We have all made mistakes in our past and we strive not to make the same mistakes or as many mistakes in the future. God has given us a very valuable tool in living this life called the Bible. The Bible gives us some very practical advice and guidance on how to live a better life tomorrow than we lived yesterday. This series of sermons will detail the practical advice and knowledge that God has given us in his Word on subjects like: men, women, relationships, parenting, purpose, money and much more. Join us on Sunday mornings as we learn together how to make the best of the rest of our lives.

Journey to the Cross Sermon Series

As we experience the Easter season year after year, it can lose its impact and become almost stale. We’ve heard the messages... we’ve seen the images... watched the plays... We’ve been shocked by the horror of all that Jesus endured - torture, crucifixion. And the sad result is: over time, it just doesn’t seem to be as "Amazing" or "Exciting."

In this series we begin following Jesus to the Cross... looking at the last few days of Jesus before His Death... To see not only WHAT Jesus experienced for us, but also HOW He approached His death - to see Jesus’ Attitude.

What did Jesus do on the Way to the Cross?
What was Important to Jesus as the Time of His Death drew closer?
After all, shouldn't the things that were important to Him during His last week be what is important to us all the time?

Revolution Sermon Series

Revolution is defined as: a sudden, complete or marked change in something. When we read the Bible we encounter a God who works in amazing ways on behalf of HIs people, but sadly today we don't see God doing amazing things anymore. The God who multiplied the church in Acts is the same God who guided and fought for the Children of Israel in the book of Joshua and that God is the same God that we serve today. So why don't we see His power? Perhaps the problem lies within ourselves and withon our church - we've been doing the same things over and over again, expecting little from God, celebrating pretend victories and hoping to survive. The problem is not with an absent God, but with a people who are satisifed with the status quo; we need a revolution in the way that we think and believe if we want to see God working in a mighty way in our homes, our lives and our communities. In the book of Joshua we find a revolution as God's people follow Him into a new land that He had promised them and in this series we are going to look at these people and find some practical steps to revolution. Join the Revolution this Sunday.

It's all About the Presents

With all the hustle and bussle of the holiday season it is easy to get caught up in the business of Christmas and forget about the real reason for Christmas. The most important present this Christmas is not something that can be found in the stores because it has already been given - Jesus. Jesus is the most amazing gift that we could ever imagine because he was more than a baby in a manger. This Christmas season we will be looking at the people in our nativity set and find all the gifts that we were given through Jesus Christ. Click the below to listen / watch the sermons.

You've Got Questions. He's got answers.

Life is not easy and through this struggle called life there are many tough questions that we spend many hours trying to answer; we ask people who seem to be more spiritual than we are and still can't get answers to these questions. In this sermon series Pastor Josh will try to answer some of those tough questions, not from popular wisdom or personal opinion, but from the perfect Word of God. Friend of God Sermon Series

For the next few weeks we are going to be looking at the life of one man who has a pretty special place in the Bible, he is called in James 2:23 a “friend of God”. Wouldn’t it be amazing to stand before God one day and have him call us a friend, to be more than a child of God, but His friend. Join us Sunday mornings during September as we study the life of Abraham and grow closer to God together. Click the graphics below to hear the weekly sermons.

Battle Gear Sermon Series

Sometimes it feels like this life is a battle, it seems that everything is under attack: our families, our children, our churches and our communities. God never promised that our Christian life would be easy, but He did promise that He would supply us with the necessary strength, power and equipment to make it through this life in a way that would bring glory and honor to Him. Sunday evenings in September we will be learning about these tools that God has given us for life. Don't fight naked, join us as we learn about our battle gear.
